Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is teeth whitening?Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that aims to lighten the color of your teeth by removing stains and discoloration from the inside-out. At Pure Glow Whitening Lounge, we offer dental professional teeth whitening services that use safe and effective treatments to brighten your smile. Our treatments are tailored to each individual's needs and are performed by an experienced and skilled Oral Health Therapist who prioritise's safety and customer satisfaction. We use advanced whitening techniques and dental industry-grade Hydrogen Peroxide/Carbamide Peroxide to ensure the best results without compromising the health of your teeth.
-
How does teeth whitening work?Dental industry-grade Hydrogren/Carbamide Peroxide contains an ingredient that opens the pores in the tooth which allow the active bleaching agent to seep through pores in the enamel into the dentin of the tooth. The oxygen molecules from the bleaching agent contacts the discoloured molecules latched to the tooth causing them to break away exposing the natural colour of the tooth.
-
How long does it take to whiten teeth? Our In-Chair Teeth Whitening treatment takes approximately 90 minutes, brightening your smile by up to 8 shades in a single visit. *Treatment times vary due to additional treatments a patient may have in one visit.
-
Does teeth whitening hurt?Although the procedure itself does not hurt, you may experience an increased amount of sensitivity during and immediately after the procedure. This is perfectly normal and typically goes away quite soon afterwards. We will apply desensitising gel to immediately rid any sensitivity.
-
Can I get teeth whitening if I have sensitive teeth?Yes, if our Oral Health Therapist believes you’re a suitable candidate for teeth whitening. If you are unsure, book in a FREE Initial Consultation to discuss any concerns you may have. We provide options for sensitive teeth and what can be done to alleviate any sensitivity experienced after treatment. Desensitising gel is provided for all Teeth Whitening treatments. You can also use a sensitive toothpaste at home.
-
Will whitening my teeth damage my enamel? Our whitening treatment will not damage your enamel as we only use dental industry-grade Hydrogen Peroxide/Carbamide Peroxide. Brushing your teeth incorrectly may be more harmful to your enamel than a professional whitening session. If you brush your teeth too frequently or too vigorously, hoping that your teeth will become whiter, you will likely cause damage to your enamel. Professional whitening will not affect the enamel or hardness of your teeth.
-
How long does teeth whitening last? The length of time the results of professional teeth whitening is largely dependent on the way you care for your teeth after the procedure. It is essential to limit the intake of staining foods and drinks, such as curries, wine, coffee, soft drinks and tea. If you smoke, your teeth may start changing colour earlier than those who do not. In general, the results of professional teeth whitening typically last between 6 months to 2 years.
-
Will bleaching gel whiten my veneers, caps (crowns) and bonding?Whitening your teeth will have no direct negative impact on your fillings, crowns, or implants. Professional whitening will not harm your restorations, but it will also not whiten your restorations. This may be an issue if you have fillings or restorations that are dark or yellow to match the shade of your teeth. If you have a whitening session, you will probably need to consider changing the fillings and restorations in your mouth to match the whiter shade of your teeth.
-
How are my bleach trays made?Customised bleach trays are made by taking an intra-oral scan of your teeth. We use the lastest technology, iTero Element 3D Digital Scanner to design & create the most precise & comfortable bleach trays possible, without using gaggy impression material.

What's the difference between In-Chair & At-Home Teeth Whitening?In-Chair Teeth Whitening that is professionally done by a registered Dentist/Oral Health Therapist/Dental Hygienist is the safest and quickest way to whiten teeth, it also contains a high concentration of bleaching agent (up to 25% Hydrogen Peroxide). Our very own Oral Health Therapist is able to check your suitability for whitening, show you the shade you can expect to achieve through treatment and perform the treatment safely – that means properly protecting your gums, soft tissues and any sensitive areas like cracks, receding gums or worn edges that might not be obvious to the untrained eye. At-Home Teeth Whitening & Top-up Teeth Whitening Kits can be just as effective when provided under the supervision of a registered Dentist/Oral Health Therapist/Dental Hygienist. At-Home & Top-up Teeth Whitening kits contain lower concentrations of bleaching agent (up to 6% Hydrogen Peroxide by Australian law) so it takes longer to achieve the same result as it would in the chair.

What tooth whitening brand do you use?Pure Glow Whitening Lounge uses Philips ZOOM Professional Teeth Whitening system. Results up to 8 shades whiter in just 1 visit!
